Soul-minded Entrepreneur Spotlight: Lauren Glauberg, NYC

Each month A Light In The Chaos will place the spotlight on an entrepreneur who leads with soul. It is with gratitude to we spend time with NYC Acupuncturist, Lauren Glauberg.

THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR LIGHT WITH US. PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF AND WHAT DO YOU DO?

My name is Lauren Glauberg and I am a licensed acupuncturist in NYC. I am also an Assistant Supervisor on the Kiiko Matsumoto acupuncture clinical teaching team at Tri-State College of Acupuncture as well as an essential oil wellness advocate and educator for doTERRA.

WHEN DID YOU REALIZE YOU WANTED TO DO THIS WORK?

A few years ago, I was having unexplained health issues and after exhausting much of what Western medicine had to offer, it was recommended that I try acupuncture. I will admit I was skeptical, but symptom relief happened in the first few treatments and I was immediately intrigued. How is it that strategically placed hair-thin needles relieved my symptoms?

About a month later, during one of my acupuncture treatments, I was lying on the treatment table and suddenly had an “ah-ha" moment. I knew I had to learn this medicine and I wanted to offer people the same type of healing care I received. My inner voice was speaking loud and clear and I heeded its call.

I have always had an innate interest in health and wellbeing, but at the time wasn’t necessarily seeking a career change. A few months later, I was enrolled in graduate school and on my way to getting my Masters in Acupuncture.

HOW DID YOU MAKE THE SHIFT FROM CORPORATE INTO AN ENTREPRENEUR AND MORE SPECIFICALLY INTO HOLISTIC FIELD?

The transition from working in the corporate world to becoming an entrepreneur happened over a few years. While in graduate school, I continued to work in my corporate job. Upon graduation, I was anxious to test my entrepreneurial spirit, but at the same time was taking a leap of faith without the safety net of an organizational infrastructure and a paycheck waiting for me every two weeks. Becoming an entrepreneur has taken lot of will, patience, perseverance, and self-confidence, and when these are running thin, I make sure to focus on my mission to help others heal and create a better quality of life in a simple, elegant, and effective way.

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU?

Healing does not always mean becoming symptom free, but rather feeling at peace with or accepting a situation. Having had multiple surgeries and various health issues, I know that healing is a type of evolution since it requires change on various levels. It can take a tremendous amount of courage and patience to heal especially for those who have lost hope which is one of the most important parts of the healing process.

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE?

Scheduling downtime for myself. Taking time for myself is often the first thing to go when I get very busy.

WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF BUSINESS ADVICE YOU HAVE RECEIVED?

“Believe in yourself”. This seems a rather common and obvious piece of advice, but the word “believe" has a lot of depth and determination behind it. As long as you believe in yourself, you will have the self-confidence to keep moving forward, learning, and growing.

Belief expands your vision not only within, but around you.

WHAT IS THE BEST BUSINESS ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE?

Build a support network and don't be afraid to be fussy. Your support network has to foster you and one size doesn’t fit all. Choosing the right people you can count on, in both your personal life and in business, will help make you more successful, motivated, and productive. Support can come in many different forms: emotional support, sharing information, sharing points of view, etc. and a network can include family members, friends, mentors, co-workers, colleagues, other healthcare practitioners, and sometimes even strangers.

WHAT QUOTE OR MANTRA DO YOU LIVE BY?

“If you want to fly, give up everything that weighs you down”

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MORNING RITUAL?

Every morning begins with a walk with my dog (because nature calls). I also begin my day with an essential oil routine: On an empty stomach, I drink a glass of water with a couple drops of lemon essential oil which is a great detoxifier, diffuse essential oils such as peppermint and orange to awaken my senses, and rub rosemary essential oil on my lower back to wake up my adrenals. This stuff really works! Using essential oils and doing something healthy and positive for my body and mind affects the flow of the rest of my day.

WHAT IS ON YOUR BOOKSHELF?

Numerous Acupuncture, Chinese Medicine, and health-related books, fiction books including The Art of Dancing in the Rain (my new favorite), and a few theatre-related books (theatre is one of my passions and I used to work in stage management).

WHO INSPIRES YOU?

So many people that I’m not sure where to begin. However, when my patients heal and return back to the life they love and I witness them grow in their ability to care for themselves and gather new tools to sustain health and well-being, I am inspired to become a better acupuncturist and healer.

I am grateful for each new day since it’s another day to make a positive difference in my own life as well as in the lives of those around me.

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU WISH YOU KNEW WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER?

I wish I was more aware that mistakes teach important lessons. In life, it’s rarely about getting a chance, but rather about taking a chance. You will never be 100% sure it will work, but you can always be 100% sure doing nothing won’t work. Most of the time you just have to go for it! And no matter how it turns out, it always ends up just the way it should be.
